墨索里尼的一生藏著一個極大的秘密，就是他的妻子倪黛狄和兒子貝尼托阿比諾，這兩個從未出現在任何他的傳記文章當中的重要人物。墨索里尼與倪黛初相識的時候，就是個熱血的社會主義份子，希望混亂的義大利社會能走向無神主義、反君主專制、受社會主義解放的未來，倪黛被他的理想所震懾，更為了墨索里尼所發行的一份宣傳理念的報紙散盡家財，而這個報社更成為法西斯的前身。後來一次大戰爆發，從軍的貝尼托竟就此失蹤，倪黛好不容易才在軍醫院找到剛結婚的兒子，這也促使倪黛向墨索里尼要求名份，但她卻遭到嚴厲拒絕，更被強行帶走。這樣，倪黛在精神病院待了超過11年頭，每天備受精神折磨，也不能見見自己的親生兒子，但倪黛不肯放棄，她決定背水一戰！
