故事大綱：香港回歸中國前夕，北京公安局派遣臥底鞏偉到香港，調查以甫光為首的犯罪集團. 鞏放下兒子固及患病之妻李夏，藉協助匪幫成員小黑逃獄博取其信任，逃亡中二人建立友誼。到香港後偉在一次行動中被攝下容貌，成為中港兩地通緝目標。偉任務艱辛，又惦掛妻兒；而固更因為父親而受辱，幸父子情深，互相了解. 另方面，香港督察方逸華被派上大陸追查案件線索，結識了鞏固母子，亦漸了解偉的為人，更發現了他的臥底身份；後李夏病重去世，臨終前托方照顧其子，固遂決定跟方到香港與偉重聚。有人通風報訊，令甫懷疑偉的身份，更擄去固逼其招供，偉進退兩難，固犧牲自己助父親脫險，但偉仍被甫識破，幸得方所救，而固亦得以倖存，匿藏於小黑之處。甫窮追不捨，小黑及偉父子合力瓦解匪幫，而方，偉經歷患難，情愫漸生，固亦得以再享天倫之樂。
